The Nusuk application has become the central gateway for the 1448 AH Umrah season, which opened with visa issuance on May 31, 2026 and pilgrim entry to Makkah from June 1. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that pilgrims now receive their Umrah permits digitally through the app, marking the platform's most advanced season yet.

A Digital-First Season

According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the Nusuk app is the primary platform for obtaining Umrah permits and managing bookings throughout the season. Industry reporting indicates the platform has grown to more than 30 million users worldwide, reflecting how central it has become to pilgrimage planning.

The permit issued through Nusuk is mandatory for anyone wishing to enter the Grand Mosque to perform Umrah, even for those who already hold a valid Umrah visa. The Ministry said the move is part of wider efforts to streamline procedures and improve the pilgrim experience through advanced digital systems and integrated services.

The Shift to Package-First Booking

This season also brings a stricter booking model for international pilgrims. Under what observers describe as a package-first approach, a visa is generated only once accommodation and transport have been confirmed and contracted. In practice, pilgrims can no longer apply for a visa independently and then arrange services afterward.

The Ministry has called on Umrah service providers and overseas agents to adhere strictly to the approved timetable and comply with all regulations. Officials said the requirement is intended to ensure higher service quality and a smoother, better-organised season from arrival to departure.

Key Dates for the Season

The Ministry has outlined a clear calendar for 1448 AH. The final day for issuing Umrah visas is set for 1 Shawwal 1448 AH, corresponding to March 9, 2027. Pilgrims will be permitted to enter the Kingdom until 15 Shawwal 1448 AH, or March 23, 2027. The final departure date for Umrah pilgrims is 30 Shawwal 1448 AH, corresponding to April 7, 2027.

Pilgrims should also be aware that the entry visa validity for Umrah has been reduced to one month from the date of issuance, although those who enter the Kingdom may still stay for up to three months to complete their Umrah.

What It Means for Pilgrims and Agents

The shift toward a single digital platform changes how pilgrims prepare. In previous years, travellers could secure a visa first and finalise hotels and transport later, sometimes through informal channels. The package-first model closes that gap, tying the visa to a confirmed, contracted itinerary. For pilgrims, this can mean fewer surprises on arrival, but it also requires choosing a provider earlier in the process.

For agents, the message from the Ministry has been consistent: comply with the approved calendar and regulations or risk losing authorisation. The Kingdom has suspended foreign Umrah agencies in past seasons after reviews, and the tighter digital framework gives authorities clearer oversight of who is booking whom, and when. Pilgrims are advised to deal only with licensed operators registered on the official system.

Practical Tips for Pilgrims

Download and set up the Nusuk app before booking, and register early to avoid delays during peak demand. Because the season now runs on a package-first basis, choose a licensed provider and confirm that your accommodation and transport are contracted before expecting a visa to be issued. Keep your digital permit accessible on your phone, since it is checked at the Grand Mosque. Watch the calendar closely: with visa issuance closing in March 2027 and the entry visa now valid for only one month, book within the window that matches your intended travel dates. Finally, verify that any agent you use is officially approved, as the Ministry continues to tighten oversight of Umrah operators.
